The successful run of '90s R&B reunion tours has certainly been a highlight of the past decade. But we also have to shout-out those R&B groups from the '80s that have been holding it down as well. While some are clearly more active than others, we always appreciate a melodic walk down memory lane when some of our faves resurface. One such group is the Force M.D.'s, a soulful ensemble of gentlemen who blessed us with timeless slow jams like "Tender Love." Sadly, several members have passed away since they first reunited back in 2000. But brothers/founding members Steven "Stevie D" Lundy and Rodney "Khalil" Lundy have kept it in the family with the addition of their nephew, Zieme Capers, to the roster. Now the trio hopes to get a Quiet Storm brewing with their latest single "Make U Happy."
Via SoulTracks, the fellas recently shared that, "We wanted to keep the legendary Force M.D.'s sound, but with a modern R&B feel." Translation: If you were hoping for some nostalgic sonance, you might be a bit disappointed. But just because they didn't recapture the musicality of their "heyday" doesn't mean it's not worth a listen. "Make U Happy" is a bonafide R&B groove that celebrates love in all the right ways. If you find yourself in a better mood after listening to the feel-good tune, you're not alone. "We were all in a down mood when we went to the studio that day," the group admits. "When we got the actual song and saw it was called 'Make U Happy,' we all kind of laughed. The song changed our vibe that day and we made some magic happen."
Stream the song and peep the visuals below. We're not sure what's next for Force M.D.'s, but you can visit their website to download "Make U Happy" and view upcoming performance dates. If you're feeling extra nostalgic, check out their 2017 album of cover songs, Our Favorite Joints.
