We already know that she's great on the solo tip with works like Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete. However, when it comes to collaboration, our girl Sy Smith is always game to lend her vocal skills to her long list of talented friends. A fairly frequent partner of hers is producer, composer and musician Jared Faber. He's a bit of a musical chameleon, creating everything from his own solo material to composing scores for television and films (including last year's Teen Titans Go!: To The Movies, CSI: Miami and...um...Being Bobby Brown) . Having such a diverse output means that he knows his way around a groove, something he proves with his latest collab with Sy, "Singin' A Different Tune."
The track is a funky dance number that's full of sass and fun. Sy provides the sass as she admits that she knows she's got us open. "We're gonna get / To the bottom of this s**t / One way or another," she sings before relaying that's she ready to get it started. Jared provides the funk and fun with a mixture of electronic elements and live instrumentation, giving the song a fresh and improvisational feel. The jam is an equal showcase for both with instrumental breaks and layered vocals that show off their respective talents. We have a feeling that this one will have you moving from the moment you press play until the final note.
No doubt about it, Jared Faber and Sy Smith make beautiful music together. Here's hoping for many more musical meetings between the two in the future.
