Ready or not, the holidays are upon us and with this new yuletide season comes new songs to help get you in a festive spirit. Just this past week alone saw holiday offerings from Tamia and Pink Sweat$. Now H.E.R. is throwing her hat into the holiday ring with her rendition of Vince Guaraldi's classic "Christmas Time is Here."
Released as an Amazon Original, the song marks H.E.R.'s first foray into seasonal music while also proving that there isn't a genre that she can't touch. She opens the song with a jazz twist, seemingly sticking close to the jazz roots of the 1965 original. However, the restrained soul of H.E.R.'s voice weaves in the soulfulness of gospel music, transforming the melancholy song into a one of hope that warms you from the inside.
The GRAMMY-winning singer expressed her excitement about tackling the classic tune and having it included as part of Amazon Originals holiday playlist. "I love everything about the holidays especially the music," she said in a statement. "I'm so happy to be a part of this Amazon Originals holiday playlist and get to spread holiday cheer thru [sic] my music." Other artists who appear on the playlist include John Legend, Jon Batiste, Smokey Robinson, The Soul Rebels, Aloe Blacc, Masego and Leona Lewis.
