Kehlani Checks Her Man On 'You Know Wassup'

The problem with loving a singer-songwriter is that if you mess up, you'll more than likely end up the subject of a song. Just ask the many fellas who dared to love pop star Taylor Swift. It seems like wronging R&B starlet Kehlani might also have your name up on the lyric Summer Jam screen. The singer famously linked romantically with rapper YG back in September only to have the stability of their love affair come under fire due to cheating allegations around Halloween. Now, two weeks later, Kehlani seems to be addressing the rumors with a brand new song entitled "You Know Wassup."

The singer turned to production duo The Rascals to help her craft the pensive cut, which finds her evaluating why she always ends up with relationship drama. They lace her with a brooding jam full of echoing vocal samples (as well as a few extra vocals from Rascals member Leon Thomas) and wavy synths that help her talk out her feelings. She ventures into deeply personal territory as she delves into it all without actually name-checking YG — though, if you're paying attention, you'll definitely catch the hints. At one point, she even sings, "You're still my love / You're still my heart / That's still my date / Still wanna be Mrs. Jackson / Still wanna be a co-captain." If we were YG, whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, we'd be on our p's and q's from here on out.

There's no word on if  "You Know Wassup" will be included on a larger project. But since she seems to be churning out songs rather quickly and making high-profile appearances on songs like Teyana Taylor's recent track "Morning," we wouldn't be surprised if Kehlani had something up her sleeve.
