KIRBY Sets A Musical Thirst Trap With Her 'Kool Aid'

When singer-songwriter Kirby Lauryen bounced onto our radar a few years ago, it seemed she was poised and ready for breakout success as a solo artist. Yet shortly after that, her music output suddenly stopped. She eventually resurfaced, dropping covers and loose singles here and there, but they'd always vanish after a short time. This can be a fickle industry and we hate to see true talent get lost in the shuffle. Thankfully, it looks like things are finally turning around for Ms. Lauryen, now known simply as KIRBY. She's under new management with Thrice Cooked Media (also home to Pink Sweat$) and recently dropped an official new single named "Kool Aid."

Like the name implies, the track is a sweet and tasty treat for the ears. Guitar, organ and drums combine for a soulful, retro-sounding backdrop courtesy of production by Homer Steinweiss of The Dap-Kings. With sultry vocals and coy lyrics, KIRBY is a melodic temptress as she sings, "My sugar's sweeter, sweeter than your Kool Aid / I'm sweeter, I'm sweeter and you know it / My sugar's sweeter, I can be your Kool Aid / You know, you can't buy this at the corner store." This track is so good, it would make a certain red mascot shout, "Oh, yeah!"

While we eagerly await her debut project, you can catch us sipping on KIRBY's "Kool Aid," currently available at your favorite digital retailers. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram as she prepares to release more music throughout the year.
