It's been two years since Moonchild blessed us with the dreamy album, Voyager. In that time, lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Amber Navran found the time to drop her debut solo EP, Speak Up, that same year, while also staying booked and busy alongside groupmates Andris Mattson and Max Bryk with a host of festival and tour performances. Now the trio returns with a new single, "Too Much to Ask," and news of a new album on the horizon.
On the sparse, yet soothing single, Navran's calming vocals create an instant mood as she pleads with her boo to "call in sick, please baby." Unfortunately, in this case, Navran doesn't seem to find her happy ending as she's struck with the realization that she and that person aren't on the same page. "Lyrically, it's about realising the person that you love doesn't love you like you love them," she explains about the song's meaning. "We all want to be loved the way we love, right? Sometimes you reach a point of: is it too much to ask to be in a relationship with a person that feels balanced? That feels like both people are in it, in love to the same extent."
"Too Much to Ask" is the first single to arrive from their upcoming album, Little Ghost, due out September 6th on eOne and Tru Thoughts. The trio first began sketching out the album's framework while still in the midst of their busy touring schedule until they were able to return to Lake Arrowhead, which is where Voyager was recorded. Once they were off the road and able to devote more time to the album, Little Ghost was born out of writing retreats in Lake Arrowhead and frequent visits to each other's home.
