After dropping their long-awaited Silk Canvas debut last summer, VanJess was kind enough to keep our playlists dripping with their slinky sound well into 2019. Aside from lending their gorgeous vocals to Kaytranada's "Dysfunctional" groove, the talented lovelies dropped a full remix EP dedicated to "Addicted," and then partnered with Saba for an updated spin on "Honeywheat." Now the duo revisits the album once again, this time with an MNEK-assisted rework of "Through Enough."
The original was a slow-burning thumper with some added swag, courtesy of a few hot bars from GoldLink. It's evident that the remix keeps the brooding scintillation, produced by twin brothers Lophiile and Skyler Acord, largely intact. But a closer listen reveals MNEK's creative stamp during the song's chorus before he gets some solo shine on the closing verse. The "Girlfriend" singer thoroughly slays the mic, from the intro nod to Lisa Stansfield to his impeccable ad libs that coast us towards the song's end.
