Gallant Puts His Spin On Ne-Yo With 'SexyLuv'

Singer/songwriter Gallant just dropped his first release of 2019 and offers his take on an early 2000s R&B hit. “SexyLuv” serves as a more tranquil interpretation of Ne-Yo’s smash single from his 2006 album In My Own Words. Gallant completely revamps the original track’s breezy, mid-tempo groove for something much more sultry and serene, but he leaves the lyrics and melody untouched. Despite the "Sexy Love" cover’s short runtime and abrupt ending, the Bounce-Worthy alum adds depth to the track, changing the vibe from a flirty two-step to sensual slow wind.

“SexyLuv” marks Gallant’s first offering since his pensive ballad “"TOOGOODTOBETRUE," which was released last fall and featured Oscar-nominated singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens and Emmy-nominated animator/screenwriter/songwriter Rebecca Sugar.  The rapid rate at which he released material last year – including the singles "Gentleman," "Doesn’t Matter" and “"Haha No One Can Hear You!" – had us all thinking a full album was on the horizon. Instead, we were hit with a double dose of disappointment when he canceled his Too Good To Be Tour a little less than a month before it was set to kick off in Atlanta. At the time, he explained that he had expected that his music would be complete and he would be able to create the experience he wanted for his live show. He graciously thanked fans via social media for their patience and assured them, “Nothing is more important to me than making sure I can bring the proper experience to the people who matter most.”

Gallant obviously knows the danger of keeping his supporters waiting for too long, so we suspect that this latest track serves as teaser for what’s to come. Wanting more than a hint, anxious Twitter fans recently attempted to get the scoop on the follow-up to his debut album straight from the source asking, “Any shot we’re getting Ology’s sibling this year?”, to which he offered the following coy response, “Yea, but more like her cousin.” In the meantime, be sure to add “SexyLuv” to your sexy playlist and watch the cosmic accompanying video below.
