In the years since the release of her last effort, Everything Is Expensive, Esthero has kept a rather low musical profile. A couple of her songs have appeared on movie soundtracks and she's done a few features, but there's been mostly an absence of one of our favorite Canadian imports. The seven-year wait for new material from the singer has finally been put to an end, though, with her latest single "Baby Steps" and we couldn't be happier.
"Baby Steps" seems to be both a message to a possible lover and a conversation with her loyal fanbase. It's a slow-paced piano-driven ballad that takes its time as Esthero wrings emotion out of each carefully placed note. She intimates her uncertainty about love and all that the future brings. Still, she knows that what she wants is the love they share. "I'm taking baby steps, baby / Say you will wait / Say you will wait for me," she sings on the song's emotional chorus.
We don't don't know about y'all, but we think this one was well worth the wait. And to make things even sweeter, the singer promises more where this came from. "7 yrs is up," she wrote on Facebook. "New chune finally avail on iTunes. The first of more to come. I’ve missed you. I hope you’ve missed me too."
