BET To Share The Untold Stories Behind 'Soul Train' On Upcoming 'American Soul' Series

Since shots of Kelly Rowland as Gladys Knight first leaked back in October, we've been nothing short of excited about BET's upcoming American Soul series. The show, which began taping in Atlanta this past September, will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic rise of Soul Train creator and host, Don Cornelius. Although we will have to wait until February to check the show out, BET is stoking the flames of anticipation with word that the scripted series is adding some heavy-hitting guest appearances from a few of entertainment's talented figures, who can be seen in the extended teaser.

In the new sneak preview, we get our first glimpse at some of the events that led up to the debut of the hippest trip in America. Actor Sinqua Walls stands out as a young Cornelius who is determined to bring the music of black America into homes across the country. In addition to Rowland, fellow Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams also makes an appearance as the legendary Diana Ross, while K. Michelle is set to portray Martha Reeves of Martha and the Vandellas fame. Singer Bobby Brown is set to appear as Rufus Thomas, the equally-colorful singer behind the classic soul single, "Do the Funky Chicken."

BET Networks didn't have to look far to round out their exciting cast. Fresh off her turn as Whitney Houston in BET's The Bobby Brown Story, actress Gabrielle Dennis will put her acting chops to work once again, this time as Tina Turner. Meanwhile, Hit the Floor's McKinley Freeman will try his hand as Turner's former bandmate and ex-husband, the late Ike Turner. In addition to the guest appearances, the show's regulars also include some major star power, including singer Kelly Price who is taking on the role of Brianne Clarke, a Los Angeles-based mother whose children are rising stars on the scene.
