August Alsina Proves He Hasn't Forgotten Us With 'Wouldn't Leave'

We haven't heard from August Alsina musically in quite some time. In fact, the last we heard about his proposed third album Drugs was that his label Def Jam was holding it "hostage." That's a shame, especially with all the momentum that he built up with singles like "Don't Matter" and "Lonely." August knows that he's kept fans waiting long enough, though, so he's giving them something new to listen to and watch with his cover of Kanye West's ye track "Wouldn't Leave."

The original song, which also features PARTYNEXTDOOR, is kind of a mumbled, jumbled mess thanks mostly in part to Yeezy's nonsensical lyrics and the Auto-Tuned mish-mash that's going on during the chorus. For his part, August takes the best parts of the song, fleshing out the romantic notions of the song with a few of his own lyrics. He opts to sing about his ride-or-die love for his boo, keeping it real by singing, "The situation ain’t what I choose / But I know that I don’t ever wanna lose you." He keeps things just as simple in the accompanying video, which he also co-directed. It's filmed during the golden hour in what appears to be an abandoned housing project and keeps the singer as the primary focus. With his chest and emotions bared, August gives us all the feels with the lyrics and the deep, searing looks he gives to the camera. It almost feels as if he's looking directly at the viewer and speaking to their hearts.

Only Def Jam and August Alsina know when we'll be hearing Drugs (if that's even still the title of the album). However, it's nice to know that Mr. Alsina hasn't forsaken us.
