Our girl Conya Doss has been busy in the studio putting the finishing touches on her eighth studio album, Clear. It honestly doesn't seem like it was that long ago when we celebrated the release of VII (Seven). That's probably because the talented singer has maintained a steady performance schedule for the past three years. Either way, we're always happy to get something new, and she's giving us plenty of reasons to smile with two new singles ahead of the album's release.
Ms. Doss goes old school for the uptempo, piano-driven melody "Until." The doo-wop-inspired tune is an ode to a love that can stand the test of time. While we're totally crushing on this infectious groove, we do wish she incorporated more of those sweet, street corner harmonies (wooo's and oooo's) that define the genre. Totally different but equally as good is the mid-tempo number, "Back to Us." Musically, the song is a classic stepper's groove, but lyrically, it's a tribute to second chances in the game of love. You can hear the smile in Conya's voice as she sings, "We're so much wiser now / You know just what I want, and I know what you need / Now that we've cleared the past, this here will surely last."
