Snoop Dogg Rides A 'New Wave' With Mali Music & Announces Semi-Autobiographical Stage Play 'Redemption Of A Dogg'

When Snoop Dogg first revealed his plans to release a gospel album, a collective side-eye could be seen around the world. But since the double-disc collection Bible of Love dropped back in March, skeptics and haters have been silenced by the album's critical success and positive reception. To be honest, the sincerity of the project surprised us all – this wasn't just a gimmick. Featuring collaborations with some of our favorite gospel artists, the substantive set spent several weeks atop the Gospel charts and continues to elevate our playlists to a higher level.

Snoop also kept us visually uplifted with videos for "Words Are Few" (featuring B. Slade), "One More Day" (featuring Charlie Wilson) and "Blessing Me Again" (featuring Bishop Rance Allen). However, for his fourth single, "New Wave," he takes himself completely out of the frame. Like the track itself, the video's sole focus is featured guest artist, Mali Music. Mirroring the sparse beauty of the song's piano-driven instrumentals, the camera lens adopts a minimalist approach against an alternating backdrop of desert landscapes and sun-hued walls. Home movie-like footage and intimate portraits give added sentiment to personal lyrics like, "And I think of all the things You brought me through / The world, it needs to follow you / And I think of all the days my hope was through / And still you came and brought me through." Watch the clip below and continue to get your praise on by streaming or downloading Snoop's Bible of Love project.

Lately, it seems the enterprising Doggfather has more day jobs than Steve Harvey. We ain't mad, though, especially since he seems to be living his best life. But things weren't always this good for the West Coast icon, and he's giving us a peek behind the curtain with his latest venture – a semi-autobiographical stage musical named Redemption of a Dogg. Co-produced with Je’Caryous Johnson (ask your church aunties about him), the play examines the internal battle one man has between preserving his life-long legacy and losing the love of his life when he is faced with choosing fame and fortune over faith and family.

Snoop will co-star in the musical with a soundtrack that features his greatest hits and several tracks from Bible of Love. Via press release, he boasts, “Please believe you’ve never seen urban theater like this! With my flavor and his expertise, we’re gonna bring the people an unmissable show. I can’t wait for everyone out there to see it!” Tamar Braxton is also slated to star in the touring production. This should be interesting, to say the least.
