NAO & SiR Are Just Trying To 'Make It Out Alive'

We're really ready for this new NAO album. Unfortunately, NAO isn't ready to give it to us just yet. Hell, she hasn't even bothered to give us a title or a release date. But we can't be mad at the sweet-voiced singer, especially when she's giving us jams like "Another Lifetime" to tide us over while we wait for any tidbit of info for the new project. And now she offers another cut from the upcoming project, a duet with TDE's own SiR called "Make It Out Alive."

Rather than your typical R&B ballad, "Make It Out Alive" is a future-leaning cut that encompasses the gamut of emotions that comes with being an angsty twentysomething. Warm synth chords and knocking drums act as the intro to NAO's vocal, which sees her contemplating the blurred lines between life and love. "Fall too deep / Too deep to get out of here," she sings on the song's chorus, where she's joined by SiR. "Too deep / Too deep to get out of here / House burnt down / Burnt down to the f**king ground / I don't even care now if I make it out." While that may seem like a bit of millennial apathy, it sure doesn't sound like it. Both singers offer impassioned performances, with SiR's second verse and their joint choruses growing in intensity as the song progresses.

So, what exactly inspired this one to come about? "I'd hit my late twenties and everything was in flux; relationships, work life, home situation, everything," NAO said about the song's creation. "I was lost and I genuinely had to ask 'how do you make it out of here?'"

We're definitely feeling this one and looking forward to what NAO's got cooking up — we're just waiting on her to tell us when we can expect it. Take a listen to "Make It Out Alive" below.
