In the latter half of 2017, Jessie J released a steady stream of new singles between August and November. Dropping one song a month, she kicked things off with "Real Deal" and kept the listening party going with "Think About That," "Not My Ex" and "Queen." The powerhouse songstress announced that her next album, R.O.S.E., would be coming in early 2018. While fans patiently waited for R.O.S.E. to bloom, Jessie surprisingly went and competed in the Chinese singing competition show Singer over the past few months, and not-so-surprisingly won first place. With that trophy now on her shelf, Miss Jessie is finally ready to release her next album, and she's literally wasting no time. She's announced that R.O.S.E. would be rolled out in four parts over the course of four consecutive days in the coming week.
The unconventional release of R.O.S.E. will begin with R.O.S.E. (Realisations) on May 22nd, followed by R.O.S.E. (Obsessions) on May 23rd, R.O.S.E. (Sex) on May 24th and R.O.S.E (Empowerment) on May 25th. Each volume of R.O.S.E. will feature four songs for a total of 16 new joints from Jessie J on the full-length release. Of the songs on R.O.S.E., which chronicle her last four years, Jessie describes them as, "simply me singing my diary in a melody." Based on what we've heard thus far, she's been going through it in numerous areas of her life, but she's pushed through and has some great material to show for it.
In addition to dropping her album news, Jessie J premiered the music video for "Queen" and brought the song's empowering lyrics to life. The video opens with Jessie dressed in a nude bodysuit and wrapped in similarly colored sheer fabric. Within seconds she launches into the first verse with some uplifting advice for the ladies listening. "Stop playing with your body, lady / Stop feeling like you're not enough / Stop feeding into the haters / Stop and give yourself some love," she sings to give everyone's self-esteem a boost. While Jessie continues with her body positivity anthem she goes through a couple of wardrobe changes and even sits on a throne and dons a crown. By the second verse, she's joined on the soundstage by a diverse group of women of all ages, shapes, sizes, races, ethnicities and abilities. Director Marc Klasfeld's camera loves all of the women who appear in front of it, and he showcases all of their unique, unsung and unconventional beauty.
"It was so important to me to have real women celebrated in the video," Jessie shared via press release. "There is no better time than now to empower each other and lift each other up. I hope this video and song can help and remind any woman that she is beautiful and is a QUEEN. All women are QUEENS.” To that we say amen and cheers to Jessie J for the motivational music and powerful imagery. We have yet to hear a bad song or see a weak visual from R.O.S.E. and can't wait to hear the album in full when all four parts are released next week.
