Plutonic Lab is a legend on the Australian hip-hop scene. The award-winning producer, multi-instrumentalist and performer has been holding it down for the better part of two decades and is still going strong as heard on his new releases, the double A-side single "Blind Eyes" and "Give It Up." For his highly anticipated return, Plutonic Lab has gathered together a diverse group of artists for both tracks and the results are a head-nodding combination of hip-hop, soul, funk, electro and jazz.
Lead track "Blind Eyes" gets the party started right and quickly. Fellow Aussie Natalie Slade contributes her rich-as-molasses vocals to the song over a sound bed of piano, synths, bass and drums. The track thumps underneath Slade's harmonies until New Zealand-by-way-of-Rwanda rapper Raiza Biza's spit his verse on the jazzy outro. Both artists return for the second single "Give It Up," with the addition of a sprinkling of horns throughout and a more electronic sound. Natalie once again kicks things off with her distinctive voice immediately grabbing the listener's attention. Raiza has a more prominent verse on this track before it circles back to Slade to wrap things up. About both songs, Plutonic Lab says, “I feel the sound of these two pieces have a great balance between electronic textures, acoustic instrumentation, jazz, tough beats and clout.”
