Shay Lia Gives Us Something To 'Cherish'

When the social and political climate of today makes most of us wanna holler, artists have the luxury of channeling that rage and angst into their art. The product is often a beautiful interpretation of the overwhelming emotions that are sometimes difficult to put into words. With the help of super-producer Kaytranada, singer/songwriter Shay Lia makes her statement on the horrific events going in Syria on her latest single “Cherish.” Atop an equally somber track, her gorgeous but pain-ridden tone paints a gloomy picture of despair and desperation. She sings, “No one wants to leave home / Deep down even a child knows that if people could / Leave gold in the ground / Cherish what comes around / There would be no war.”

The song is reportedly the lead single from Lia’s upcoming debut EP and has even made its way to French fashion brand and music label Kitsuné's America 5 compilation album, which was curated and developed in partnership with the NBA and exclusively features North American artists. It seems the Djibouti-born songstress has made quite a name for herself since being featured on Kaytranada’a 2014 jam "Leave Me Alone," which also appeared on his 2016 debut album 99.9%. “Cherish” is the latest addition to a string of the collaborations between the Montreal-based musicians, and the duo have seemingly found a formula that works. As the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

If you don’t mind bringing your mood down just a bit, give Shay Lia’s “Cherish” a spin right here. Rumor has it that she will appear alongside Kaytranada at Coachella this year, so be sure to keep up with her and all moves by following her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
