Now based in Nashville, Jamie Lidell may be miles away from his native UK, but the artistic expat is clearly feeling right at home here in the United States. In addition to starting a family, the singer/songwriter/producer/musician launched his own label, Jajulin Records, and delivered one of our favorite albums of 2016, Building a Beginning. Now he's back with a companion project of sorts, the EP Extended Beginnings.
The three-song EP is further proof of Jamie's continued development and creative mastery of his skills. Building a Beginning blew us away with arrangements steeped in funk, R&B, soul and even a tinge of gospel. Extended is still extremely soulful yet more abstract, delivering an experimental sound that can't quite be labeled, except to say that it's damn good, especially when paired with Jamie's blissful vocals.
According to Jamie, the three songs – "What Are You Afraid Of?," "Love Me Please" and "You Rewind" – were originally slated to be included on the Building a Beginning album. But we're low key glad that didn't work out, because the set shines beautifully on its own. Stream Extended Beginnings below and head to your favorite digital retailer to purchase a copy.
In addition to the new EP, Jamie Lidell has also launched a podcast about music production nmed Hanging Out With Audiophiles. Check out the first episode via SoundCloud and keep up with this brilliant musician via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
