We're not sure how we missed the May release of Cassper Nyovest's third album Thuto, but trust and believe the South African hip-hop artist/producer has got our undivided attention with the visuals for his latest single "Destiny."
Like the track, the Kyle Lewis-directed clip heavily features soul goddess Goapele who lights up the screen as Cassper's leading lady. The visuals follow Goapele throughout an immaculate, futuristic condo, as she tends to an elderly gentleman. While various screens monitor his vitals, she begins to play home videos that bring the backstory to life. A young inventor has created the perfect woman, but apparently, even perfect love has its limitations. (Regardless if she's human or android, Goapele is still bae.)
In addition to being visually stunning, Goapele's exquisite vocals – a down-tempo flip of the international dance hit "Destiny" by South African group Malaika – are the perfect counterpoint to Nyovest's charismatic flow and straightforward style. With a mix of sweetness and sensuality, she lends warmth to the rapper's blunt statements such as, "Look, I know you've heard a lot of things about me. I mean most of it's true, I'm an a**hole. I've hurt women, I'm kind of rude...I got issues, but I've improved."
If you're new to Cassper Nyovest's music, "Destiny" is an impressive introduction. Watch the video below and let us know if you're loving this collaboration as much as we are. Thuto is currently available for streaming and download through all major outlets. In addition to Goapele, the album also boasts features from Black Thought, Tshego and Tsepo Tshola.
