Kali Uchis & Jorja Smith Share A Post-Apocalyptic Love Song With 'Tyrant'

Kali Uchis is finally ready to enact her plan for world domination. The Colombian-American singer/songwriter has been in the game for a minute, releasing her first mixtape, Drunken Babble, in 2012. She’s also collaborated with other up-and-coming stars like Tyler the Creator, Kaytranada, Diplo and more. Now Miss Uchis is ready to take her place on the throne of musical royalty. If her new single “Tyrant” featuring Jorja Smith is any indication of what she has in store, she just might rule our summer playlists.

Uchis has described “Tyrant” as “a post-apocalyptic love song.” It's about "wanting to stay in the haze of puppy love forever and never face the power struggles, because that’s your only real escape from the cold realities of life." Over a breezy Caribbean-inspired, synth-heavy groove, Kali engages her lover to ensure that he won’t take her love for granted. She wants to continue "Frenching like Bridget Bardot" and not face contention from her sole source of comfort. Meanwhile, guest star Jorja Smith plays her position, singing the second verse and adding a couple ad-libs to the chorus.

“Tyrant” is Kali Uchis’ first single from her long-awaited debut album. While an official title and release date have yet to be announced, Kali will be making the rounds on tour. Peep her website for more information about when the emerging star will pull up to a venue near you. Until then, get into the post-apocalyptic-by-way-of-the-Caribbean vibes of “Tyrant.”
