Goapele turns up the heat and pumps up the bass on her new single "$ecret." The singer slips, slides and body rolls over a bass-heavy track that opens with a piano solo and a telephone ringing before cascading into trap-like percussion that lays a sexy foundation. From there, Goapele breathes more life into the track as she purrs to her lover, "Yeah, I got a secret / You bring the freak right out in me / I got a secret / You can keep it." Well, damn. We think the secret is out.
The Goapele we hear here leans more toward the frisky sex kitten we heard on "Play," and she also borrows from Aaliyah's playbook. "$ecret" features a slick interpolation of lyrics from Babygirl's 1998 hit song "Are You That Somebody." In Goapele's hands, the lyrics we've heard hundreds (if not thousands) of times sound fresh and are given a new life on this slinky groove perfect for your private playlists.
"$ecret" follows lead single "Power" and is the latest listen from Goapele's upcoming Dreamseeker EP, which is scheduled to be released on May 19th.
