With a new music festival popping up seemingly every day, it may be hard to pick which ones to attend. One surefire bet remains the Capital Jazz Fest, thanks to its ability to bring a stellar lineup to the DMV area year-after-year. Now in its 25th year, the festival looks to continue the tradition thanks to a jam-packed lineup for this year’s event. Set to take place Friday, June 2nd through Sunday, June 4th at the Merriweather Post Pavillion, this year’s festival looks to be one for the books thanks headlining performances by Corinne Bailey Rae, Anthony Hamilton, Avery*Sunshine and George Benson.
Split between two stages, the three-day event literally has something for everybody. Soul and R&B fans will also be able to take in the sounds of El DeBarge, Jaheim, The Whispers, Kelly Price, Algebra and Tank, just to name a few. Meanwhile, jazz music fans will be treated to live performances by Incognito, Lee Ritenour, Pieces of a Dream, Maysa, Kirk Whalum, and Jazz Funk Soul, a trio featuring Jeff Lorber, Chuck Loeb and Everette Harp. We highly recommend wearing sneakers since you’ll likely spend a lot of time dashing back and forth between stages.
The party won’t stop once the last attendee leaves the Pavillon grounds, however. That Saturday night, attendees will be able to dance their cares away at the festival’s official afterparty, which will also include a live performance by CeCe Peniston. With the lineup for the weekend’s opening night still being solidified, it’s a safe assumption that there will be even more to look forward to once the first weekend in June rolls around. Tickets are set to go on sale Saturday, April 1st. However, considering that they sell out every year, we highly recommend copping yours as soon as possible since they likely won’t last long.
