"Uptown Funk" and "24K Magic" may have us associating new Bruno Mars music with a funky good time, but we shouldn't forget that the crooner is a balladeer at heart. He showed more of that side when he covered "All I Ask," a song he co-wrote with Adele, this week for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. Now, with just two weeks to go before the release, he's showing that sound once again with sexy ballad "Versace on the Floor."
The song begins with just Bruno's voice and spare piano chords as he waxes romantic. "Let's take our time tonight, girl / Above us all the stars are watchin'," he sings. "There's no place I'd rather be in this world / Your eyes are where I'm lost in." However, things pick up when the chorus hits, with '80s-inspired production setting the mood for a quiet storm kinda night. As sweet as everything sounds, though, Bruno gets very direct, suggesting that he and his lady "kiss 'til we're naked," leaving their high-priced garments where they lay. While it's not the slinky, sultry kind of baby-making slow jam we've come to expect from music's current climate, something about the sweetly romantic sound of the song resonates, making us anticipate what more is to come from Bruno's latest.
Turn down the lights, close the door and give "Versace on the Floor" a spin below. 24K Magic is set to hit stores on November 18th.
