It's been a minute since we've heard a solo effort from Atlanta-based British singer/songwriter Julie Dexter. That's not to say she hasn't been busy – she's still touring around the world, plus she's lent her voice to some stellar collaborations with Atlanta musicians like The Dangerfeel Newbies, Meditative Funk (Kinah Boto, Kebbi Williams, Russell Gunn and Craig Shaw) and The hc3 (Nick Rosen, Kevin Smith & Henry Conerway III). Now, the jazzy soulstress is finally ready to share her seventh album Under The Covers and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help make the project a reality.
As the title implies, Under The Covers is an album of cover songs featuring Ms. Dexter's unique interpretations of some of her favorite songs. Featuring production from Daz-I-Kue and her longtime collaborator Khari Cabral Simmons, the album will encompass a variety of genres, spanning The Beatles to Beyoncé. We're already sold!
Julie candidly admits, "There are always challenges to making albums: finding the right talent, production, distribution and promotion. Those are not my challenges. The greatest challenge I've faced has been financial restrictions. This is why your support in my first Kickstarter campaign will be greatly appreciated."
Watch the video below to hear more about the project. Every little bit helps and all currencies will be accepted, so visit Julie Dexter's Kickstarter page and lend your support to this gifted indie diva. Pledge perks for Under The Covers include signed CDs, t-shirts, liner note shout outs and a private concert. You can also show your support in person at one of her upcoming shows in Atlanta or Europe. Scroll down for tour dates and visit her website for ticket info.
