Mayer Hawthorne does us all a favor and covers the Tears For Fears gem “Everybody Wants to Rule the World." A favorite of fans young and more seasoned, he’s performed this song across the country during his Man About Town Tour. Though this track can’t be found on his fourth album, Man About Town (released in April of this year), those lucky enough to have seen him live are grateful for the gift of this studio version.

The Michigan-native is known for giving us sinfully soulful music for all of our moods, and his rendition of this '80s classic is no different. Citing musical legends like Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes, as well as J Dilla and Santigold, as influences, this song is the perfect medium to showcase Hawthorne’s ability to mesh a vintage sound with a contemporary kick. While applying his own unique touch, he takes care to preserve the delicate melodies and retro elements that make the original so perfect. Listen to Mayer's Hawthorne's cover below, and ride all the way out to this breezy throwback.
