No stranger to the Summer Spirit Festival stage, The Roots brought their A-game once again to the Merriweather Post Pavilion for 2016's edition. The seasoned performers quickly reminded everyone within earshot that they were more than The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon's house band, as long-time fans already knew. Rapper Black Thought commanded the stage with his cool swagger and flawless wordplay while cookout-ready in khaki shorts, a striped polo and a white straw hat. All eyes were on him as he rocked the mic and spit hot fiyah throughout their exciting set that had a few surprises. One such was when they brought the DMV's own DJ Kool onstage to perform "Let Me Clear My Throat." The Roots made quite a dent in their catalog during the 2016 Summer Spirit Festival performing a cross-section of their hits and fan favorites like "You Got Me," "Break You Off" and "Get Busy." Getting busy is precisely what the Legendary Roots Crew does every single time, and this night was no exception.
