Oh, Anna! Just when we thought we knew what GRAMMY Award-winning singer Anna Wise was up to, she keeps the surprises coming. The Sonnymoon singer released her debut EP The Feminine: Act I last month to our delight. However, instead of taking a break from the studio, she’s already releasing new music. As a B-side to her EP, Anna has shared a new track, “Princess Complex,” which features the same intoxicating blend of R&B, hip hop and EDM we’ve come to know and love from the singer.

Produced by Teebs, “Princess Complex” is a hazy, wavy, hypnotic cacophony of synths, bass clarinet and guitar that is just as overindulgent as the song’s title suggests. While the song is full in terms of musical production, Anna keeps it light and sexy when it comes to the lyrics, as she lithely quivers, “Please don’t take offense to my ignorance / Teach me, Teach me / Your dirty fingers / Your three eyes.” Anna is looking for that special someone to rock her world, like a virgin, touched for the very first time. While on the surface the song seems to ask for her lover to treat her like a novice in the bedroom, Anna is also asserting her own power by commanding the object of her affection to give her what she desires and indulge her princess act in an interesting power play.

“Princess Complex” falls in line with Anna’s own brand of feminism, as we’ve seen on songs such as "Precious Possession" and "B***hSlut." Never one for basic stunts and shows, Ms. Wise continues to share music that is both enchanting in its production and composition and thought-provoking in its message. “Princess Complex” can be streamed below. The Feminine: Act I is available for purchase on iTunes.
