Two years after Jordan Rakei hypnotized us with his incredible Groove Curse EP, we'll finally be blessed next month with a full-length project entitled Cloak. The luminant-voiced Kiwi has certainly kept himself busy with collaborations, high-profile guest features and touring. But ever since he dropped "The Light" late last year, we've been impatiently waiting for some new solo material. He delivers in a mighty way with his latest, "Talk to Me."
It's a short piece, but utterly brilliant from start to finish. The seductive whisper of Jordan's vocals are like an aural caress, causing us to melt in its warmth. The instrumentals are just as lovely, elevating the track with nuanced intensity. Rakei's sparse piano chords shimmer with emotive warmth while the static electricity of Jim Macrae's drum work energizes the arrangement and guides the pace throughout. Tom Guy's rhythmic bass and Sheldon Agwu's jazzy guitar both contrast and compliment the acoustic strains of Rakei's guitar. Meanwhile, Ernesto Marichales brings an ethnic flair to his explosive percussion, a fitting backdrop for the tribal chants that bring the song to its completion.
We seriously can't wait for Cloak to debut on June 3rd. In the meantime, "Talk to Me" is currently available on iTunes and will be in heavy rotation on our playlists. Keep up with Jordan Rakei via Twitter or Instagram and visit his website to sign-up for album release and tour updates.
