Even though tensions are at a fever pitch within the Lyon family, nothing will stop them from attending the biggest event of the year: the ASAs. Cookie is decked out in a shimmering gold gown with matching veil, while Lucious is looking casket sharp himself in a black tux. The two look at each other and reminisce about old times, even fooling themselves into believing that things haven’t really changed that much. Lucious then surprises Cookie with a huge diamond bracelet that would rival Ghostface Killah’s forearm eagle and asks her to attend the ASAs with him as his date.
While Cookie and Lucious are dressed to impress, Ms. Leah and Andre are dressed up with nowhere to go. Andre tries to make good on his promise of taking her to the ASAs, but Lucious, as always, is one step ahead. Thirsty and his goons meet Andre at the door and force the pair into the panic room. Ms. Leah is upset that she’s been caged again, but settles in to watch the ASAs on TV instead of in person as celebrities begin to walk the red carpet.
On the red carpet, girl group DMK (who won the Next Empire Artist contest to get this coveted spot) is performing a song called “I’m Fabulous” as musical stars walk the step-and-repeat. However, the glamour and glitter can’t hide all of the drama brewing. Cookie gets her not so humble brag on about her family being real, but in reality things are about to get a little too real. A drunk Carol comes parading through the crowd being loud and obnoxious, yelling Cookie’s name. Cookie greets her sister, then grabs the back of her neck to let her know she needs her to take her drunk ass home. However, like a true drunk, she can’t leave silently. As she walks out, she lets Freda Gatz know that Lucious is the one that killed her father.
With the speed and agility of a triathlete, Freda runs through the crowd, grabs a gun from security and takes aim at Lucious. However, Jamal steps in and gets shot instead. Freda looks on in shock as she’s dragged away by the police. Cookie has gone full hysterical black mama, telling her baby its gon' be alright when she's anything but.
At the hospital, Cookie and company are following Jamal every step of the way into the emergency room before the hospital crew forces them to stay in the waiting room. Cookie pushes Lucious away and says everything is his fault. She's as hysterical about her baby as anyone would be. In the midst of all this, they soon learn that both Lucious and Jamal lost the big prize for Best Song of the Year at the ASAs, the award they’ve been battling over. Basically, they split the votes, a parallel to the family being divided.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, Tariq is at the Feds plotting on how he’ll finally take Lucious down. He’s been trying to dig up dirt on the Lyon family for years and they might finally be able to achieve his goal with a surprise witness: Boo Boo Kitty.
Amidst all of this drama, no one is watching Ms. Leah, who makes her way outside to a crowd of reporters in front of the hospital speculating on the event. We are left with the cliffhanger of whether Ms. Leah will bust the truth wide open and reveal her true relationship to Lucious.
