The Barbershop series has always displayed a big heart and the value of community. With three movies on the mantle (including Beauty Shop, the female spin-off), it was only right that the franchise got a reboot since Barbershop 2‘s 2005 release. Enter Barbershop: The Next Cut. The movie, with its timeless and hilarious characters returns in 2016, not only to entertain but to reflect the palpable civil unrest, race issues and police brutality that have dominated our newscasts and social media. As a part of the cast and a producer for the film, Ice Cube has turned the Barbershop franchise into a global success not only with his stellar acting but his thoughtful choice and timing in the release of the movie.
SoulBounce had the opportunity to sit down with three stars of the movie, Cube, Cedric the Entertainer and Regina Hall while they were in Washington, D.C. promoting Barbershop: The Next Cut before a screening of the movie. The actors talked candidly during a roundtable interview about bringing Barbershop back to the screen, the poignant issues tackled in the movie and what they want moviegoers to take away from The Next Cut when it debuts on April 15th.
