The number of music festivals around this country is staggering, particularly during the Memorial Day through Labor Day stretch. The benefit is that music lovers have a melodic smorgasbord of options to enjoy some amazing artists. The downside, however — at least for those of us who are on a budget — is that it makes it that much harder to choose which events to attend. That's why we appreciate the consistent quality of the Capital Jazz Fest. The annual DC-area event never fails to entice with an amazing lineup of jazz, soul and R&B greatness.

Now in its 24th year, the weekend-long marathon of concerts will offer a little something for everyone. Old school, contemporary and indie artists will converge upon the grounds of the Merriweather Post Pavilion from Friday, June 3rd through Sunday, June 5th. Jazz enthusiasts can expect stellar performances from artists like Lalah Hathaway, Will Downing, Take 6, Raul Midón, Fourplay, David Sanborn, Brian Culbertson and The Brand New Heavies; while R&B lovers will be treated to a variety of throwback jams and recent hits from The Isley Brothers, New Edition, SWV, Blackstreet (with Teddy Riley and Dave Hollister in the house!), Toni Braxton, Tamia and Kenny Lattimore. We're pretty geeked to see some of our SoulBounce faves like Eric Roberson, KING, Jarrod Lawson, Conya Doss and Frank McComb on the bill as well. Rain or shine, this will definitely be another incredible event to remember.

This is usually a sold out affair, so high-tail it over to the official website for the full lineup, performance schedule and ticket info. While you're there, be sure to read up on the other upcoming Capital Jazz events, the 2016 SuperCruise (featuring Jill Scott, Ledisi, Eric Benet and Incognito) and the new Soul Cruise to Cuba hosted by Eric Roberson.
