Oftentimes the best thing about GRAMMY Awards weekend in Los Angeles isn’t even the GRAMMY Awards themselves. With parties, performances and gatherings galore leading up to and after the big event, L.A. is lit and the place to be for the music aficionado. One of our favorite events each year is the MojaMoja Brunch & Benefit Concert where we’ve gotten our fill of both good food and great music. Now in its eighth year, the MojaMoja Brunch & Benefit Concert has welcomed SoulBounce faves such as Janelle Monáe, Alice Smith, Little Dragon, Hiatus Kaiyote, Questlove and a host of other progressive and international soul acts to the stage for intimate, exciting concerts.
That winning streak will continue for the 8th Annual MojaMoja Brunch & Benefit Concert happening in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 13th at Avalon Hollywood. This year’s talent lineup boasts an all-female roster headlined by one of R&B’s finest voices, Goapele, and featuring fellow singers Gavin Turek, Mara Hruby and Raquel Rodriquez, rapper/singer Lizzo and DJ Rashida rounding things out and rocking the house on the turntables. Not only will attendees get to see these performers grace the stage and brunch it up, but they’ll party with a purpose with proceeds benefitting the MojaMoja Innovation Fund that empowers multicultural youth to pursue STEM educational and professional opportunities. As well, each year at the annual MojaMoja function a music icon is honored. This year’s honoree hasn’t been announced yet, but Sheila E., Nile Rodgers and Mavis Staples have been honored in the past, so we imagine 2016’s recipient will be just as iconic.
