Now that the premiere of VH1's The Breaks has come and gone, you might find yourself in need of a bit more nostalgia in the key of hip hop. Well don't fear, because growing media empire Netflix has got you covered later this year with their latest in a long line of original series, The Get Down. Created and executive produced by acclaimed auteur Baz Luhrmann, who last took us on a flight of fancy with his 2013 take on The Great Gatsby, the series takes on the Boogie Down Bronx in the late 1970s as it tells the stories of a group of teens finding their way in life.

Included among the upstart cast is Shameik Moore, who captured our attention with his endearing lead turn in last summer's critical darling DOPEand Jaden Smith, who's making waves of his own as the new face of Louis Vuitton's Womenswear. The fellas will star alongside acting veterans Giancarlo Esposito and Jimmy Smits as they weave the tale of the South Bronx during the tumultuous time period that would change New York City (and maybe even the world) forever. Oh, and let's not forget that it will also in effect tell the story of the beginnings of hip hop. There's even someone playing the legendary Grandmaster Flash (who also acts as a producer and advisor for the series). Judging by the show's teaser trailer, it looks to be an eye popping journey into a world that has seldom been given more than a passing glance.

Netflix hasn't given a solid release date for the 13-episode season, but we do know that it will be available for streaming this year. Take a peek at the trailer below and let us know if you, like us, can't wait to start binge-watching this one.
