JoJo is back with a fire this year after a long hiatus from the music industry. The singer gives fans an inside look into her musical process with her brand new music video for an acoustic version of her song “Say Love,” which dropped nearly a month after the official video for “Say Love” was released. While the latter has many more views on YouTube, the former provides more insight into the inspiration for the song.

The video is shot entirely in a music studio, and JoJo begins with an explanation for the song, telling us, “I had a girlfriend that was in the studio with me...she had said 'I love you' and he didn't say 'I love you' back." That's an awkward, painful situation that many of us can relate to. You can definitely see how “Say Love” is based on her friend's story as JoJo passionately sings. Her vocal performance has some parts that are pitchy, but considering the vocal range of the song and the fact that she sang it without the reprieve of background singers or digital manipulation, it is incredibly genuine and admirable.

JoJo has definitely become a vocal force to be reckoned with during her absence, and we can't wait to see what projects she rolls out as the new year comes around. She has hinted that she'll have an album coming in 2016 but has yet to officially confirm anything for her fans. In the meantime, check out the video for “Say Love” below — but be warned, the song will hit you right in the feels.
