If you've ever wondered what it's like to grow up with successful and soulful parents, you can finally put your curious mind to rest. Songstress Sandra St. Victor is giving you that opportunity in the form of her upcoming Daughters of Soul documentary, soundtrack and worldwide tour. Before the project can actually happen, Sandra needs some backing, so she's turned to a PledgeMusic campaign. So who will the documentary highlight? The daughters of six soul legends: Lalah Hathaway (Donny Hathaway), Lisa Simone (Nina Simone), Indira Khan (Chaka Khan), Kori Withers (Bill Withers), Syleena Johnson (Syl Johnson) and Sylvette "Phunne" Stone (Sly Stone and Cynthia Robinson of The Family Stone). The documentary is slated to be filmed in 2016 and will follow the singers as they prepare to go on tour and while they record the upcoming soundtrack. We will also hear the childhood stories of growing up with their super talented parents. The making of the documentary will only happen if they get enough funding to actually go on tour and record the album.
Sandra decided to expand her 2004 Daughters of Soul European concert series into the three-pronged vision to continue the legacy of their parents and of R&B and soul. The PledgeMusic campaign features a number of perks depending on the amount of your donation (options range from $10 to $25,000). Perks include signed DVDs and CDs from each artist, all access passes to concerts and even a double date night with Syleena Johnson and her husband. With 48 days left, the campaign has so far raised 29% of its goal. Find out more about the Daughters of Soul campaign on the PledgeMusic website, which also includes a video featuring some of the famous parents endorsing their singing offspring. If you're a fan of soul music, then this campaign should definitely be one that you get behind.
