After spending time locked away behind the scenes penning hits for industry heavyweights like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Usher, R. City (the artists formerly known as Rock City and always known as brothers Theron Thomas and Timothy Thomas) has stepped into the spotlight with their reggae-infused single, “Locked Away.” The St. Thomas, Virgin Islands natives have said that the song’s theme is inspired by a life-changing event they went through during their childhood. The visuals for “Locked Away” will definitely strike a chord with anyone who’s had to deal with the woes that can disrupt familial harmony.

The video opens with Theron riding on a charter bus, gazing out of the window. As he approaches his stop, he witnesses a teenage girl being arrested by the police as her distraught father looks on helplessly. The scene flips to a father in Army fatigues telling his princess that he is about to leave for his current call of duty. Meanwhile, Timothy is being confronted by his lady who is stressing him over unpaid bills.

As featured guest Adam Levine solemnly sings the catchy hook, Timothy and his lady spar about how to handle their bills and the Army dad shares an emotional farewell with his family. The touching visuals reflect the harsh effects of financial stress and separation from loved ones. During a tense moment, images allude to Timothy planning an illegal act in order to get some money; however, he thinks twice and returns back home to his lady. As the hard times pass, Theron and Timothy grind and gig with their ladies at a party. At the end, the families lovingly embrace, showing solidarity against their challenges.
