For anyone who’s been waiting for Elle Varner to finally drop her long-awaited sophomore album, you might be in luck. The “Conversational Lush” has teamed up with “In Da Club” rapper 50 Cent on the surprise new single, “Birthday.”
Premiering as part of 50’s Power Season 2 launch concert, “Birthday” is a mid-tempo banger about treating your lover like everyday is their birthday. The sound is very reminiscent of late '90s rap sung collaborations, but with a more guttural bass line. While the collaboration is a bit of surprise, Ms. Varner and Mr. Jackson have great chemistry, trading verses and ad-libs like road dawgs.
Teased as the first single off 4 Letter Word (That at this point probably stands for L-A-T-E), "Birthday" will definitely make people stand up and pay attention to what Ms. Varner has to say. While we all know that this isn’t exactly the first single from the set, with more than five songs at this point being released to the public, we hope that a banger like “Birthday” will finally give Elle the momentum she needs to finally drop the album.
