JoJo Sounds Angelic On 'Far From Heaven'

JoJo Nail Art

After breaking free from a recording contract that did her (nor her talent) no favors, JoJo has kept a rather low profile, only peeking out to deliver 2014's #LoveJo EP and drop a few guest vocals for a hidden track on Pharrell Williams' G I R L. But that doesn't mean that the songstress hasn't been working. Far from it, actually. Instead, she's been holed up in the studio working with a bevy of producers on her upcoming third album.

While her fans might be growing impatient, a recent leak might be proof that what JoJo will be bringing on her third outing will be worth the wait. The piano-driven ballad, titled "Far From Heaven," finds her singing about a love that could've been perfect if only fate had worked out in its favor. But it doesn't seem to be in the cards as JoJo laments the relationship's demise on the chorus, "So far from heaven, with nowhere to run / Should've seen it coming, but we followed the sun / Far from perfect in this universe / No use fixing the things that never work." Though the relationship is a flawed one, there's nothing flawed about JoJo's vocal on the track. She shows restraint when necessary and allows her voice to swell and build as the production does the same. And where some lesser singers might begin to scream or run all over the place to show emotion, JoJo gives us clear, sustained phrasing, only deciding to embellish near the song's end.

Though we don't know when exactly we'll be hearing news about the new JoJo project, this track has us indeed curious as to what will be in store whenever it arrives.
