If you were on Twitter this week, then you may have seen the name Somi floating around with the hashtag #BeingMaryJane. That's because the singer's single, "Ginger Me Slowly" was played during this week's airing of the hit BET show, Being Mary Jane. The Rwandan/Ugandan singer's coy plea to her lover had music fans buzzing on social media as they tried to find out who was behind the song. They quickly got their answer, with Somi smartly deciding to release the song's music video just in time for the show's airing. Shot by South African director Kyle Lewis and co-starring South African actor/model Ezra Magengez, the black and white clip easily captures the sensuality of the song's lyrics.

Penned during her year and a half long stay in Lagos, Nigeria, Somi was inspired by the local phrase "to ginger" which means make someone feel good. Drawing her inspiration from her time spent in Africa, it is only fitting that the video initially premiered on Msanzi Magic, a South African television station, before making its debut in the States. "Ginger Me Slowly" appears on her 2014 album, The Lagos Music Salon. Check out this sexy number and see if it doesn't inspire you to find your own special someone to ginger.
