Dawn Richard Reps Her Hometown With 'New Or Lean'

Dawn Richard has always been the most musically relevant member of now-defunct girl group Danity Kane, and she continues to prove exactly why. The singer, who just released her latest LP Blackheart at the top of the year, is prepping for her first Black Era show in London and, in honor of the event, blessed her fans with new track "New Or Lean."

The song finds Dawn putting on for her hometown of New Orleans over a thumping Swagg R'Celious beat. With the bass turned way up, Dawn flexes her swag as she rides the grimy beat with distorted vocals as she rap-sings over the trap-ready track. "I'm so New Orlean, lean / B****s wan' be me, me," she sings over the ominous, thudding number. But things pick up quickly as the song takes it to the club, mixing sampled vocal chants with a shuffling beat that demands the listener to move their feet.

You won't find "New Or Lean" among Blackheart's 14 tracks, as it's a special one-off. But it's similarly drenched in the electro-R&B sound that Dawn's bringing on the set, which is currently available on iTunes. And if you want to catch Dawn doing her thing in London Town, she'll be across the pond on June 2nd at the famed Jazz Cafe.
