The Dangerfeel Newbies released their debut album Hariet this past September, and it was one of the sleeper hits of the year (even garnering an honorable mention on our year-end best albums list). In the event that it got lost in the 2014 sauce, then there's no better time than now to revisit it -- especially with the next single getting ready to make an impact. That song is "Shine" featuring singer Mashan Da'Lyric joining the trio on an inspirational soulful house song.
TDN members Jamal Ahmad, Mark Angel and Darren "DJ" Wagner set the tone with a thumping four on the floor beat to get lost in on the dance floor. Don't too lost in the instrumentation, however, and miss out on the lyrical content of this track, which is straight up praise and worship. Mashan Da'Lyric sums it up when she sings so sweetly on the chorus, "I want you to shine Jesus shine / Shine through me," as she exalts His name and asks to be a vessel for His light.
Mashan Da'Lyric's voice has also graced the Newbies' second single "Always With Me," where she shared center stage with J'Piccola. On "Shine" the spotlight in solely on Mashan, and she rises above and beyond. J'Piccola had a hand in songwriting this beautiful song, and a flute solo by Ulysess "Nakayo" Dupree further sets it off.
