Maimouna Youssef Entices Us To ‘Stay’ Awhile

Maimouna Youssef Stay Still

There’s no denying that Maimouna Youssef stays on her grind.  Having spent the last several weeks touring around the world with Common and Jay Electronica, she is now gearing up to teach a youth-oriented series of vocal and songwriting workshops at the end of the year, all while working to revive #TheMuvement campaign in an effort to fund her next album and first independent world tour. Meanwhile, her singer/femcee alter ego Mumu Fresh still has an album to promote and recently released the video for “Stay.”

Partnering once again with director Brian “B. Kyle” Atkins, the visuals find Mumu looking so fresh (see what I did there?) and so clean as she sings about the impending demise of a relationship.  It’s not your typical break-up song lamenting a man who’s afraid of commitment. In this case, it’s Mumu who’s not ready to settle down and play wifey. “I’m a perfect lady with n***a tendencies,” she confesses. Oooop! As the song continues, Mumu effortlessly switches roles, both flexing her lyrical prowess and serenading us with honeyed vocals. There’s no love interest and no storyline, so these visuals are all about Mumu, and we ain’t mad. With a face beat to da gawds and a wardrobe that’s as unique as the artist herself, she slays in every scene. Check out the visuals below and, if you haven’t copped The Reintroduction of Mumu Fresh, head over to her Bandcamp page and download it now.
