Sam Smith has just dropped the video for "Restart," the latest release from his debut album, In The Lonely Hour. The upbeat '80s pop influenced number's video gives an insight into the wild roller coaster ride that the distinctively voiced Smith has been on since bursting on to our radar back in 2012 with his appearance on Disclosure's "Latch."
Featuring footage of Smith on tour having impromptu jam sessions with his band on the tour bus, backstage at festivals laughing it up, performing to thousands of adoring fans and with cameos from Nile Rodgers and Diva Geek's Vula, the video is a breath of fresh air from the somber tones of his hit single "Stay With Me" and his downtempo takes on classics, like his cover of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know." Maybe it's the breathy vocals, the electric drums or the heavy synth feel of "Restart," but although we've become accustomed to the powerful tearjerkers from Smith, it's refreshingly enjoyable to see and hear a lighthearted side to the impressive vocalist — even if this song is the tale of a complicated break up.
