Apparently, Martha’s Vineyard is the place to be this August. Oh, you didn’t get the memo? Well, allow us to break it down for you. In addition to the annual Martha’s Vineyard African-American Film Festival, the town of Oak Bluffs is also playing host for the 2014 Martha’s Vineyard Summer Madness Music Festival and Conference between Friday, August 8th through Sunday, August 10th.

Brought to you by MV Soul Concepts, LLC, the Martha’s Vineyard Summer Madness Music Festival and Conference was created with the following goal: “to celebrate music and those in the industry who produce and market it worldwide, as well as to educate those interested in learning about the music industry in a conference format.” Now in its second year, the festival touts the theme “Ladies First: Righteous Rhymes & Business Minds.” And with heavy-hitting headliners like Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, Amel Larrieux, Melanie Fiona and Suzzanne Douglas -- not to mention the talented pool of supporting artists such as Collette, Lori Williams, Monie Love, Francis Jaye and BLACK GIRLS ROCK! founder, Beverly Bond -- we’d say this promises to be an epic weekend, inde.

Other highlights include an entertainment industry panel discussion, a new artist showcase, nightly parties, spoken word and a partnership with the Universal Zulu Nation to honor the “First Ladies” of Hip-Hop, Sha Rock, Lisa Lee and Debbie Dee (a part of UZN’s year long celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Hip-Hop culture).
