Columbus Short Has A Message For 'LUCY'

Now that he has some free time on his hands since being fired from Scandal, actor Columbus Short can focus full time on his burgeoning music career and "taking R&B back." If that is in fact still his master plan, then he may want to come a lot stronger than his new single, "LUCY."

Shrewdly released on the release date of the feature film of the same name -- the single cover art even features Short posed in front of a Lucy movie poster -- in the hopes of getting some residual interest in his new music, that's where the connection begins and ends as the song has absolutely nothing to do with the sci-fi action flick. Instead, on the piano-driven track, Columbus warbles and waxes poetic to his lady "LUCY" that he hates loving her and details a few of the reasons why while also telling the "beautiful ones of the world" that "Cupid done lied."

Yeah, it's as perplexing as it sounds. Adding to the ball of confusion that is this song is actor Jackie Long who now fancies himself a rapper and spits a not-so-hot 16. Oh, but it doesn't end there, with the addition of rapper Red Dirt closing the song out with a cool flow and some bars that actually sound decent, but by the time they're heard, it's too late to salvage.

"LUCY" is a disappointing follow-up to the first listen of his music that Columbus Short provided us with on the sexy slow jam "Gave Ya." We're not sure what direction he will go in next, but we'll certainly find out when he releases his EP, Long Story Short, in the next few months with his debut album to follow. Let's hope that Columbus' future songs don't come up short like "LUCY" does.
