Even in a culture obsessed with being “Happy," there are times when life can bring you down. It may be financial struggles, despair over the state of the world, marital issues, friendship woes or, worse, the unexpected loss of loved ones. This is what inspired Loide to pen “One Day,” a timely reminder that something better is on the horizon. Although the lyrics are somewhat typical for an inspirational song, the DC-based jazz singer delivers a delicately nuanced vocal over a breezy Afro-Caribbean instrumental arrangement, providing a soothing musical escape from our troubles. Particularly effective is the use of the flute -- played here by Baltimore native, Brent Birckhead -- which elevates the song to ethereal heights. The track will be available on her upcoming album In Time, which will be released “one day” in the near future.
In the meantime, there's no need to wait for tomorrow, you can listen to “One Day” right now right here. DMV Bouncers can also catch her CD release concert at the legendary Blues Alley on July 5th. For ticket information, visit the Blues Alley website.
