Neneh Cherry & Robyn Come 'Out Of The Black' Together

My nose would be shooting out to Pinocchio lengths if I said I wasn't excited about the idea of Neneh Cherry joining forces with Robyn for a special guest spot on Cherry's long-awaited Blank Project. As long-time fans of both of these ladies, and knowing these Swedish dames are multifaceted in all that they do, the combining of these like minds seemed inevitable. Yet sometimes what is written on paper doesn't follow through in the execution and, yeah, hopes can be taken to a natural high. Not that their Four Tet-produced collaboration "Out Of The Black" is bad, it's just a little dry, considering these two ladies have crackled and popped better than this. Still there is something about this murky digital display that is hypnotic and draws me in for more listens, and I do note that its frosty minimalism (which is in keen line with something Little Dragon would do) and intimate lyricism is a soothing break from all the ram-bam of house and electro-pop that I tend to consume on a daily basis. Even though Neneh and Robyn tone down their usual roars and don't give the girl power fireball I was hoping for, things will be rousing again once we get to (finally) hear Blank Project in full when it drops February 25th.
