Res Gives A Little Yank On Fleetwood Mac’s 'Chain'

Fleetwood Mac must be feeling quite flattered as the Cali trio Haim and Aussie cool kids The Preatures all laid claim to taking a page from the band’s melodic rock formula on their prospective hits this past year. Add to the list of flatterers is Res, who just went straight to the source as she showed her love for the classic ‘70s collective with her tribute project, Refried Mac. With a great EP title like that, you bet the material is even better, and the Idle Warship songstress does her thing on key Mac tracks, like “Dreams,” “Rhiannon” and even Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen.” Her version of “The Chain,” off of Mac’s iconic 1977 Rumours album, is laced with Southern fried funk and flecks of psychedelic rock, especially when it dives off into that wonderful middle-eight. As “The Chain” is my all-time favorite Mac song, I’m really loving the direction she took on it. Add to that, Res’ cover has also received the video treatment, and her boho romp is filled with smiles and dancing (and most importantly birthday cake!) and is nothing short of festive.
