M.I.A. Lights Up The Screen In 'Y.A.L.A.'

M.I.A.'s Matangi finally arrived in stores last week, and the defiant Sri Lankan has dropped the visuals for the album's single "Y.A.L.A." Commissioned by fashion mag i-D Magazine in collaboration with KENZO, the clip is full of close-up shots of the rapper's fully made up face as colors and lights flash and swirl all around her. In other words, it's rather light on concept. Still that doesn't mean that it isn't visually arresting (and potentially seizure-inducing as there are flashing images galore). The tight focus doesn't stop M.I.A. from utilizing her usual M.I.A.-isms, sneering and mugging for the camera as her features are framed in glow-in-the-dark hues. It's no "Bad Girls," but I guess it'll do in a pinch. Peep the hyper-kinetic visuals right here.
