Eddie Moore and the Outer Circle give a master class in blending traditional jazz with modern elements on their recent release "Lesson." The song initially feels like a soulful jam session, with horns, drums and piano taking center stage. It then progresses into a more improvisational vibe where the musicians have the opportunity to cut loose a bit, with the drums and piano speeding up and the bass line becoming more prominent, creating a delicious tension. Toward the end, a futuristic synth twist is overlaid. It sounds like a lot going on, but it all comes together smoothly into one giant groove. "Lesson" is a track lifted from the group's recent release The Freedom of Expression, which is available now.
